Cytochrome P450 Contents and NADPH-Cytochrome P450 Reductase of Liver in Rat Exposed to Microwaves
Choi Jeong-Hwa

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate changes of microsomal mixed function oxidase(MFO) system and peroxidative damage in rat liver exposed to microwave. Sprague-Dawley male rats 200¡¾10g body weight were randomly assigned to normal or microwave(MW) expose group. The rat were irradiated with microwave at frequency of 2.45§× for 15 min and cytochrome P450 contents and NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase activity were investigated at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 16th day of experiment. The contents of cytochrome P450 in liver of MW group was increased to 123%, 126%, 126% and 119% of the normal group at the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th day after the irradiation respectively, but recovered to the level of normal group at 16th day. The activity of NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase in liver of MW group was higher than the normal group at 4 and 6 days after the irradiation but reduced to the level of normal group at the 8th day. The content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) in liver if MW group was increased to 1.6, 1.5, 1.7 and 1.3 fold of the normal group at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th day after the irradiation respectively, but recovered to the level of normal group at the 16th day. The present results indicated that microwave irradiated rats have activated MFO system, which may lead to acceleration of lipid peroxidation.
